JASPER-NEWTON ELECTRIC EDUCATION FUND
SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES
Application Deadline: March 3, 2008
Ten (10) scholarships are available from the Jasper-Newton Electric Education fund in 2008 as follows:
· Two (2) – Four-year, $4,000.00 scholarships at $500.00 per semester, for a total of up to eight (8) fall and spring semesters. These scholarships are subject to confirmation of grade point average and enrollment requirements.
· Seven (7) – One-year, $1,000.00 scholarships.
· One (1) – One-Year, $1,000.00 scholarship funded by JNEC Directors
Eligibility requirements for all scholarships:
1. Jasper-Newton Electric Cooperative scholarships are awarded on the basis of funds available and applicant’s eligibility. Scholarship Funds must be used within 12 months of graduation or scholarship will be forfeited.
2. Recipients are limited to graduating high school seniors (2007-2008 school year) residing full-time with parents or guardians who (a) are members of Jasper-Newton Electric Cooperative and (b) are currently receiving electric service from the Cooperative at their primary residence .
Also eligible are those seniors
whose parent or guardian is a Pastor of a Church and are residing in the
parsonage full-time where service is in the Church’s name and provided by JNEC.

Student must rank in the top 25% (first quartile) of his/her graduating class, be in the
honors
program
or a college preparatory program.
4. Application forms are provided by Jasper-Newton Electric and evaluated by a 9-member committee comprised of one member from each Cooperative district. Applications are judged on the following criteria:
· Financial Need
· Seriousness of Purpose
· Desire to Improve and Grow
· Support of Community and Family Life Goals
· Content of Essay
5. The applicant must demonstrate a coherent plan and a willingness to pursue a course of
higher learning.
6. Completed applications must be received by March 3, 2008, and must include two (2) letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors or other faculty members at the school where the student is currently enrolled.
7. Scholarship monies are disbursed only to recognized institutions of higher education. Funds are paid directly to the designated educational institution and limited to payment of expenses for tuition, textbooks, or room and board.
Additional eligibility requirements for the four-year scholarship:
1. Recipient must maintain at least a 2.50 cumulative grade point average on a 4.00 scale , and carry a minimum of 12 semester hours, or be considered a full-time student by the registrar of a technical or trade school.
2. At the end of each school semester, the recipient must provide a copy of his/her grades to Jasper-Newton Electric Educational Fund before monies are released for the next semester.
