Natural
Gas Tighter
Supplies and Higher Prices The winter weather and the tighter
supplies and higher prices of natural gas affect electric bills.
Forty percent (40%) of the electric power that JNEC uses is produced from
natural gas powered electric generating plants.
Natural gas prices have been rising for the last few years, $1.70 per Mcf
(thousand cubic feet) in 1998 to $4.50 per Mcf in 2001 to
over $6.70 per Mcf at
the end of 2004 and now at $8.00 per Mcf in 2005. The high price of gas plus the
weather are major contributing factors to your electric bills.
